The opportunity of a lifetime is the lifetime of the opportunity

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Luke 11:9 KJV)

Yes God did expect us to be active and not passive. We are to not only ask for opportunities but are to seek them; we are to knock on the door of opportunity and then it will be opened. Remember that “the lifetime opportunity is the lifetime of the opportunity”. The case in point is taking action at the right time while the door of opportunity is open lest it is forever gone.

A man was working in a restaurant as a waiter but in his heart he knew he was a singer but he just couldn’t get the right opportunity to prove his talent because no one took him seriously and would not give him an audition. One day sitting at a table in the restaurant was one of the biggest names in music. He realized that this was his opportunity and it would be only here for a little while then gone forever.

He decided to do the unthinkable and seize the opportunity so he cleared the table next to the famous person’s table gets on the table and sings a song.

He realized that this would cost him his job but he would not let this once in a lifetime opportunity pass him by.

The rest of the story is now history: A star was born, Frank Sinatra, old blue eyes just embarked upon one of the greatest musical success stories in history. What if he had not seized the opportunity that day?

Recognizing an opportunity is what often separates those who are successful from those who live in mediocrity. Some fail to recognize an opportunity even when it comes up and taps them on the shoulder. Three things Dr Luke is saying concerning opportunity:

Ask for opportunity

You can only be refused but by asking you could also receive, so is it to ask or not to ask; which will it be. Always ask! Another wise verse from the Bible says, “You have not because you ask not.” (James 4:2 KJV) Never be fearful to ask! President Barack Obama would not be the president of the United States if he had not asked to be. Ask for the things you want in life and don’t let the fear of rejection keep you from it. Remember that old saying, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease”; well if you don’t squeak you are not going to be noticed; just another way of saying: speak up for what you want!

Seek opportunity

Never wait for the opportunity to come looking for you. Some say, “Well I’m just going to wait and if it happens it happens and if not it won’t”. If that is your attitude, it probably is not going to happen. Opportunity comes to those who are seeking for it.

Knock on the door of opportunity

If you want the door to be opened then knock on it. Wouldn’t it be silly to go up to someone’s door and just stand there waiting for the door to open; no, you would knock to get someone’s attention. If you are waiting for opportunity to discover you, you might as well give it up; opportunity is waiting for you to discover it and it won’t wait forever.

Go where the opportunity is; knock on its door until it pays attention and opens the door and then when the door is open walk right in. Please understand that the opportunity of a lifetime is the lifetime of the opportunity; it waits for no one; it is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then it is gone; it is like a cup of water poured upon the sand, it quickly vanishes away. Don’t let your opportunity of a lifetime pass you by; seize it; persistently pursue it!
