How Can I Change My Life?

Written by Jimmie Burroughs

To change your life, you must change or things will stay the same.

Here are some of the adjectives God uses to describe the life he wants us to have: with the very peace of God that passeth all understanding; overcoming life, abundant life, full of joy, satisfying, a walk of light with no darkness, quickened, fullness, wisdom, free indeed, good cheer, blessings, anointing, power, unction, quietness, assurance, liberty, victory! That is the kind of life we can have if we pursue it and accept nothing less.

I read a story of a young man, only 20 years old, who described his life as a cage of his own making. He realized it was imaginary but he said, “I can almost feel the bars”. In desperation he was reaching out for help. It is easy to become what we don’t want but to become what we want takes change and determination.

A young man met a stranger one day and he shared with the stranger how hopeless he felt his life was and how he desired to change it and enjoy some of the better things of life. The stranger replied, “If you want more, then you need to become more. In life the market place decides your value and pays you accordingly. One person receives $10 per hour while another receives $100. How valuable you are to the market place is your responsibility to determine. You determine this by becoming more valuable. By becoming more you are worth more. A person gets what they are worth in life.

The world is hoping that someday things will be different and they will find that something that gives purpose to life, or that someone who will love them unconditionally, or the job that will make them wealthy. If that is your belief, I’m sorry to inform you that someday is not going to happen until you decide to take action today. If you decide to continue on as you have then don’t expect anything different.

If you are serious about changing your life, get totally fed up with the way things are. Determine now, today, to do whatever it takes to change your life. Burn the bridges and set your face like a flint and don’t look back.

Decide where you want to go. It is not enough to want change; you must decide where you are going from here to make the change a reality. Set some realistic goals and work hard toward making them come true.

Prepare for the trip. When I decided I wanted a change, where I wanted to go required a degree which I didn’t have. It seemed impossible because I had a wife and two small children and worked a 40 hour a week job. Anyway I enrolled for the fall term in a nearby college and began a trek that took six years and were some of the hardest times in my life but I made it through and began what was my calling in life, at least for that stage of my life. There have been need for changes and new directions since but as I look back I realize that the changes were preparing me more for what I do now, which is writing.

The best investment we make in life is in ourselves; it is becoming that better person, better educated, more knowledgeable, more qualified, experienced and ultimately more valuable to the market. Making money is not the only objective. Making a difference is a higher calling. Contributing to the needs of others and fulfilling a purpose are the things that give meaning to life.

The answer to the question “How can I change my life” is different for each individual. No one set of instructions will suffice for everyone but one truth fits all and that is each person will have to change if they expect to change their life otherwise things will remain the same.

Pay Forward and help others in 2011!

Every 3.6 seconds someone across the world dies of starvation and 75% are children; that amounts to 24,000 people who die EACH DAY from starvation or malnutrition. For several years now I have been helping through my financial support. $40 per month will feed, clothe and send a child to school in a third world country.

Administering a website like this one requires a lot of hours per week. If the articles here are a help to you, would you consider paying forward and helping a child somewhere to live and have a better life. Every donation through this site goes for that purpose. Even a small donation from the thousands who visit this site would go a very long ways…Please help!
