The Little Bit Philosophy…

We live in the “whole lot” not “the little bit Philosophy”. People who work 40 hours a week at $10 per hour expect to start an Internet business and earn $500 per hour the first year. People want to start in a home 3 times larger than they need, furnish it and drive a new car at the same time. I can’t really say much because that is the way I started and then struggled with both my wife and I working to pay the bills and had nothing left over to save or for unexpected emergencies or for the future.

Our present society suffers from an attention span that is reduced to seconds and patience that does not exist. We want everything yesterday and have no patience with the little bit now and wait philosophy. It is the little bit philosophy that pays the greatest dividends. But who wants to wait a year to save the money to buy a used car and pay cash when they can finance a new one now but have to make a $500 a month payment. Who wants to live in an older, smaller home with a fourth of the payment that a new larger house would cost. It is the wise person.

A family where husband and wife smoke could invest the money they spend to ruin their health and have a sizable retirement fund when it is time to retire and all it takes is a little bit along. The money saved on driving a paid for used car or living in an affordable home if invested could make them wealthy over a period of time by saving just a little bit along even if they worked at average paying jobs. The interest paid on high interest credit cards cost in the thousands over a life time but because we feel like we must have it now we do not have the patience to save a little bit along and pay cash later.

People fill their houses with unneeded junk until there is no more room and then fill a two car garage with junk that is all but worthless and let a $30,000 car set out in the weather. There is a marked difference in how people who know and follow the little bit philosophy and those who insist on the whole lot now and pay later. For one thing they learn to enjoy the simple life with far less stress; they have more time for family and friends and enjoy life.
