“The truth about MLM” is similar to the truth about most everything else, the truth is that only 2  to 5  out of a hundred make it big in MLM (That is not too far out for anything else in life when it comes to really excelling); in MLM that is not just a guess…it is based on actual studies of over 400 MLM companies. I’m talking about being in at the top; there are of course those who earn a few thousand a month and some who are contented with a few hundred a month and then some just want to make enough to get the product free of charge.

There are reasons  that only a few ever make it into the big money. From my own experience and from what I know to be the truth, about 80 out of a 100 entering an MLM do little or nothing….the other 20 do 80% more than the 80 but only 2 to 5 out of the 20 remaining learn and do what it takes to really excel in MLM. Whether it is 2 or 5 those 2 or 5 could excel in any MLM that offers a decent comp plan and has good products.

Another important factor for succeeding in the MLM industry is selecting a solid MLM company. Of the thousands of MLM companies that have started up since 1957 only 50 + have remained in business past ten years and still operate today. 95% fail within the first 5 years. That being true anyone deciding to start in this industry needs to know the guidelines for selecting the right MLM company. Read “THE PERFECT MLM”.

I’m involved because I believe in MLM and believe it is a pure business model that has been given a bad rep. While it is a pure business model, I also believe it is misunderstood and often misused. I believe when it is done right and fair that it can be a means of earning a decent living and even an exceptional living. It should never be taken as a way to get rich quick or easy money.

It requires learning and a great deal of investment in time and  some money. (The investment is very low for a business that has so much potential.); it is not usually what some say….a way to make extra money part time for Christmas. I believe for the most part it takes a full-time effort. You may get started on a part time bases and earn some but eventually it will require your full-time to do it right. It is true that you can have more free time and set your own hours but like any business, neglect causes failure.

Remember that when you apply the 80/20 principle that most people are always going to fail and most people are always going to do about 20% while the 20% DOES 80%. No need to single out MLM where you find that sort of results.

“My observation is that about one person in twenty is achieving a significant measure of goals in his or her life: financial, professional, personal, marital, spiritual, in terms of health, in whatever terms you want to look at. 95% are either failing or falling short.” Jeff Olsen, the slight edge

One of the primary guideline to joining any MLM is to like and want to use the product or products and that the products are quality products and not overpriced (You need be careful here because they are overpriced in  some MLMs.); that way even if you don’t make money at first or if you never make much money, you are buying a product or products that you would want to buy anyway.

I became aware of the importance of vitamins and supplements through my experience with a Nutritional MLM that I was part of. I still use vitamins and supplements and for me they work. Even though I never made much money with that company, I don’t regret it because I learned some valuable information that I believe will help me to enjoy better health and live longer.

One of the great advantages of MLM is the learning factor; personal development is a driving force behind MLM and the things you learn will help you in general whatever you do. You also will be learning skills that will help you in other areas of your life. I know of course that the primary goal is to earn money and  many who have taken the time to learn the business and take action are earning a full time salary. Jeff Olsen, one of the all time most successful Network marketers, having built a downline of 400,000, has written a book, “Slight Edge”, which will guide anyone who is willing to follow the principles to success in MLM.

I know that you can make anything a dishonest way to make money but to stereotype MLM as a dishonest pyramid is not the truth. It is very true that there have been plenty of pyramid schemes using MLM and also a lot of corruption. But then what organization has not had its share of such. It is found in religious organizations, Medical organizations, Law and government and just anywhere else you want to look.

Some of the world’s most successful business people recognize MLM as a good business model: Warren Buffet and Donald Trump both are sold on Network Marketing (MLM) and own MLM companies.

Robert Kiyosaki says this about MLM:

  • Builds people up instead of tearing them down
  • Offers a worldwide network and global reach
  • Develops great leaders
  • Creates genuine wealth

If you are interested in the direct marketing industry, enter into it with your eyes open and with reasonable expectations. Do your homework and select the best MLM for you and your interests. You will discover that there are two extremes: those who tell you it is all a pipe dream and a scam and those who tell you it is a way to get rich quick and with little effort. Both are extremes. Somewhere in the middle there is a place where you can find decent, honest people who want to help others to succeed financially as well as personally. THE PERFECT MLM

“With patience and ease, in an unselfish and purposeful way, over a time period undetermined, and for a good that includes others, I intend for $1,000,000 to come to me and to others who join me in holding to this objective.” Jimmie Burroughs
