A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.Washington Irving

All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother. -Abraham Lincoln

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her. -George Washington

That old saying, “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” is so true. There is no bond between humans that is greater than a mother and her children. No one impacts the life of another like a mother. Mothers are not perfect human beings, but a godly mother is the closest thing to perfect that you will ever find on this earth.

I’m thinking about my mother today who left this earth several years ago to be with the Lord. I’m wondering why I never really conveyed to her how much she meant to me. Oh, she knew I loved her, but I’m saddened for not telling her more often that I owed everything to her. Indeed everything I am and ever will be I owe to her.

I loved dad also, but there is no comparison between dad and mom. Dad was a man of the world with all its vices, but mom was godly. It was mom that taught me love, integrity and how to be a man. Dad was a drinker and a smoker which mom hated. She taught me so convincingly about smoking that I never smoked the first cigarette. She also hated the profanity. I’ll never forget the first four letter word I ever used at the age of five, and it was in her presence. She was so persuading, as strange as it may sound in this world so filled with profanity; I’ve to this day never used profanity. I have received some ribbing in my life because I don’t smoke or drink. I’m so thankful to mom’s teaching that those are two bad habits I’ve never had to struggle with. Thank you mom! You were right as always.

I’m not 100% sure about how much anyone else has loved me in this life, but there is no doubt about mom; I know that she loved me with an everlasting, unconditional love. Mother worked at a laundry when I was growing up for a whopping 21 cents an hour. Looking back, I don’t know how she managed on so little because she bought the food and most of the clothes for my sister and me, and we dressed as well as most of the kids around us. Of course, dad contributed some also, but his sacrifice in no way compares to mom’s.

You can be everlastingly thankful if you have a godly mother in the world today where not all mothers set an example beyond reproach. If you do have such a godly living mother, I hope that you will take my advice and tell her just how much she means to you, not just today on mother’s day, but often.

Mom I know you can’t hear me now, but I love you so dearly; words cannot express the feelings I have for you. I owe everything to you. May God forgive me for not telling you more often how much you meant to me.  I know that one day I will see you again in that place up yonder where there will be no more parting; we can walk hand in hand along those golden streets, and I can fully express to you how much you  meant to me and how you made possible the blessed life that I have experienced. So this is my tribute to you mom on this mother’s day 2012.
