Introduction
We know that physically that there are three things we cannot live without, and they are water, air, and food. Someone else had a different answer to the question when asked what three things they could not live without; they replied, “the obvious 3 things that I simply cannot live without are, 1. Money 2. My laptop/phone 3. Watching Football, but Without money, I don’t think anything can ever be done in this life, so it’s the first and most important variable for me and there is no compromise on it.” Different people would answer that question differently. What three things do you think you can’t live without?
What does the Bible say are the three things we cannot live without? If joy, peace, and life eternal are essential to you, the Bible has the answer, and it is the most important because it is a life-or-death situation: “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. 24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25For he must reign, he has put all enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death,” 1 Corinthians 15:19-26.
Christ is our only hope for victory over death and the grave: “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord,” 1 Corinthians 15:55-58.
Until Jesus is revealed to us and we believe he died, was buried, and rose again, we cannot be born again, and there cannot be new life. The Bible teaches that Jesus is the light of the world. Light is the gift that Jesus gives to each believer. “In him was light, and the light was the life of men.” Until Jesus comes into our lives, we live in darkness with no hope, and our future is death and eternal separation from God. Jesus wants to give us hope and a new life. He said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly,” John 10:10. The way to God is straightforward: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,” Romans 10:10,13.
Three things you cannot live without:
First, you cannot live without Forgiveness: You may exist without Forgiveness, but you cannot truly live. The Bible says everyone Needs Forgiveness: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23. We humans were born with original sin; therefore, we need Forgiveness spiritually if we are ever to experience peace and joy in this life and inherit eternal life. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, clearing the way for us to be forgiven, but we must accept His Forgiveness. You’re mistaken if you think you are too bad to be forgiven. World renown Billy Graham said, “There is actually only one sin that God cannot forgive, and that is the sin of refusing His forgiveness;” that is referred to as the unpardonable sin.
Second, you cannot live without faith: It’s impossible to have any belief about God (or a lack thereof) without faith. We should never deceive ourselves into thinking that we can live without faith. We either place our faith in Christ or put it in something else.
Hebrews 9:27 tells us, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Everyone dies, and our beliefs about God and the afterlife are determine where we spend eternity. Whether it is the faith of an atheist who says there is no God or the faith of a believer who places their faith in Jesus.
Only one can forgive our sins, and He invites us to trust Him and place our faith in Him. Only He can reconcile us to God and forgive our sins. Jesus promises to give us eternal life in heaven: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, John 3:16.The Bible says inHebrews 11:6, “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Third, you cannot live without God: Just as you cannot have a car without a car maker, you can’t have life without a creator. Our very existence depends on God, whether we believe He exists or not. According to Psalm 104:10-32, God is the Sustainer of life and continuously confers life.
Jesus is life, John 14:6, and He holds all of creation together by His power Colossians 1:17. “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous,” Matthew 5:45, providing even for those who deny Him. Thinking man can live without God is like thinking we can live without air which God provides. Without God, there is only one other alternative: eternal hell. When sin enters, a man dies spiritually and is therefore separated from God. Only trusting in Jesus for the Forgiveness of sin restores our relationship with God. Each of us has a choice, and few realize the gravity of that choice of either accepting God for who He is or rejecting Him. Rejecting God means eternal separation from His love. This brief life pales in comparison to the eternal state of the soul of man. Without God, there is no meaning, purpose, or future hope. Your choice determines your future destiny, either heaven or hell.
