LEARNING TO DIE WITH PEACE
“When We Learn How to Live, We Will Know How to Die.” – 100 + Original Quotes
There are a lot of uncertainties in life. Still, there is one certainty that does not change according to the Bible and that is each of us has an appointment with death: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
According to the Bible, we discover that there are two gates, two roads, two destinies, and two groups of people: “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
The broad road leads to destruction, and the narrow road leads to life, The broad road that most are traveling, which began at birth, is heavily traveled and crowed; this road this road is traveled by those who are going their own way, designing their lives to suit themselves, which in the end winds up in destruction—the narrow road, where few travel, is the road that leads to peace and eternal life. You have seen road signs that show an exit ahead. So, the first thing we must do is exit the broad road we are presently traveling. There are essential things we must do, according to the Bible, to exit the broad road and enter the narrow road; we must first make peace with God: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). To enter the narrow road, we must believe through faith in God’s plan: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10).
Based on the Bible verse above, making peace with God is as simple as ABC: Admit that you are a sinner in need of God’s forgiveness. Believe in Jesus and his death on the cross to pay for your sins. Confess with your mouth the intents of your heart; confessing is repenting of your sins and calling on the name of the Lord for His forgiveness: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
A commitment to God through Faith in Jesus Christ is the entrance to the narrow road and the beginning of learning how to live with a newfound purpose: Without purpose, life is an experience of vanity, so says the Bible: “Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away” (Psalm 144:4).
Now that you have entered the narrow road, how are you to travel on it, or how do you learn to live the new life with the purpose God intends? You must first realize that living a Christian life is not always easy. There are many things to learn and things to start doing differently. It involves how we act, treat others, what we believe, and with whom we associate.
We don’t have to guess about the things mentioned above, for God has given us the manual on how to live, the Bible. From it, we will gain all the information we need to embark on a new way of living. It is a daily process of learning how to live that continues for the rest of our lives. God Himself came to earth in the earthly form of Man, Jesus Christ, to teach us and to set an example before us on how to live God’s way. Therefore, living the Christian life means following the teachings and examples of Jesus. How, then, are we to access those things? It is through the knowledge of the Bible, prayer, and the guidance of the indwelling Holy Spirit, each believer in Christ receives at the point of salvation.
We are not alone in our journey; others have also chosen the narrow road and can be supportive. That is why it is so important to find a Bible-believing church that teaches the Bible from the pulpit and in its Bible classes. There are many other resources which also support you in your journey, including websites like this one, Christian books, Christian counseling services, organized Bible studies, and your personal study of the Bible.
It is comforting to know that once we are traveling the narrow road, Jesus is also with us to help and teach us how to face the challenges of life and to help us to live a Christian life of fulfillment, purpose, and meaning. Jesus said that we who have learned His ways are also responsible for teaching others: “Teaching them [fellow travelers] to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:20).
Conclusion
The key to living with purpose and meaning is setting a time each day to be alone with God to pray for His guidance and to study His Word; this is the best kind of meditation and help. I wish I could tell you that this was how I started my journey on the narrow road. It wasn’t; it took me years to learn how to live. You have the advantage today because you have acquired knowledge that I did not have on how to live. I can tell you that now I begin each day with prayer and Bible study, which is the highlight of my life. I encourage you to use the knowledge you have gained today and not delay beginning your journey on the narrow road leading to heaven and eternal life. Only then will you be able to die with peace when the time comes.
