The Problem in America
Written by Jimmie Burroughs
Many are expressing their disgust of the assault on the capitol, the seat of our democracy. I agree and am also disgusted, but the problem in America goes much deeper than that, and is also deeper than the burning of our cities and the vandalizing and looting of businesses under the guise of protesting throughout 2020. The Apostles letter to the Romans vividly describes America’s problem:
“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them,” Romans 1:21-31.
The problem with America is, it has fallen away from God and His Word and fallen into gross immorality as described above and is in danger of judgement. God has judged other great nations throughout history as He did Rome, and America will be no exception if it continues in the same direction its headed. Over 32 years ago Dr. J Vernon McGee said it was either revival or revolution for America. We are not seeing revival, but we have seen a touch of revolution throughout 2020 and now in the beginning of 2021.
President-elect Biden said of the assault on the capitol, “I think it makes my job easier;” “We must unify the country.” I’m wondering how that can be when there is a growing drive by House Democrats to impeach Trump, ironically, a few days before his term as president ends. This does not have unity or America’s best interest at heart; it is just another political ploy, “the same o same o.” . By the way, how is a second attempt at impeachment going to fare with the 75,000,000 Trump supporters across the nation. Isn’t it going to infuriate them even further and bring greater division in this country? The Democrats, along with the liberal news media, have led a crusade of hatred against Trump, even before he took office, that has brought great division across America. It is past time for leaders in in Washington DC along with all Americans to focus on uniting Americans and not causing division.
Biden said of his party, “But they’re going to have to be ready to hit the ground running.” I sorry to say Mr. Biden, It is going to take more than that. Unless there is a change of attitude in Washington, there will be only further, greater division. It seems like wisdom is an absent trait among many so-called leaders in Washington DC, and yes that includes Trump and many Republicans.
A news article out of Germany this week said that America’s fight for democracy has only begun. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, federal president of Germany, recently said, “there can be no democracy without America.” I believe that is true, since America has led the world in the pursuit of Democracy, but I also believe if America does not turn back to God and His Word, there is a danger there might not be a future America. Join me in prayer that God will have mercy on America and America will repent of her sins and return back to God and His Word before it is too late.
