Time to Reverse Course in America

Estimated 15-to-20-minute read

(This article is in the opinion of the author.)

“I want America to do well. I really do, with all my heart. And I — the only way that I see that he [President Biden] could change course is, as The Wall Street Journal pointed out today, rightly so — there’s no course correction with [President Joe Biden]. He seems locked into every one of these failed policies. So, you know, you know, you keep banging your head against the wall. Why would you expect a different result?” – Sean Hannity.

Hannity seems to want to discredit the president across the board, of which I disagree; however, I agree with the quote above. In his previous news conference, Biden himself indicated that he had no plans to change courses.

Let me say in the beginning that this article is not intended to be partisan because I’m neither republican nor democrat. However, under Democratic leadership I believe we have seen our country headed down a dangerous course this past year. It is time for President Biden and his administration to reverse his failed course and address America’s crucial problems of which there are presently many.

I believe at the top of the list of our problems today’s is the slant toward socialism. As far back as 2010, Edwin Feulner, founder of the Heritage Foundation, said, “The American people now face the choice of either continuing the policies of progressive- liberalism or changing course to a new direction that is guided by principle and oriented toward renewing America’s greatest purpose and promise.” That is what is facing President Biden if he wants his ratings to improve and is interested in addressing the concerns of the people.  It may take a change in Congress and the presidency to bring about what most Americans want for this country, which is certainly not socialism.

A whole year of failing policies is evidence that it is time to reverse course. The $1.25 per gallon rise in the cost of gasoline and the rising cost of food, and other commodities and services puts a strain on family budgets. Strangely, the majority of Americans, 60%, who are not politicians and who don’t claim to have all the answers can see the changes that need to be made when Biden and his advisors seem to be blind to what is needed most. Is it abject stupidity or just plain partisan radicalism that holds them back?

Below is a dozen of what I believe is the most vitally needed reverse courses of action:

The first needed reverse course of action: The Keystone XL pipeline needs to be reopened. When completed, the Keystone XL Pipeline will not only restore thousands of high-paying, American jobs, it will also provide the United States with 900,000 barrels of oil each day from our friends in Canada, who are our closest allies. In 2020, the United States was energy independent, but today we are dependent on foreign entities like OPEC, our enemies, to provide the U.S. shortfall of energy. Biden responded to the present energy shortage by releasing 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is needed for security purposes, which only supplied three days of U.S. energy needs. That is not the solution and doesn’t make sense.

Biden’s motivation comes from the far radical left who thinks it will take drastic action to change the climate to protect the earth. Their goal is to reduce the worldwide temperature by one degree at the cost of trillions of dollars, while there is no guarantee that the worst pollution offenders like China and India will do one thing to help. To think we can even take control of the climate and make changes is a radical theory since God controls the laws of nature and not puny man.

The second needed reverse course of action: Inflation is at a 40-year record high at around 7% annual and growing; this has added about $5,000 more cost per year to the average family budget when families are already struggling financially because of the pandemic. The question is, what caused the recent surge in inflation? According to 62% of registered voters who stated in late October of 2021, Biden’s failed policies are the blame. In all fairness, is that the case? If you figure Biden is to blame for the supply chain problems and the energy shortage, both driving forces for inflation, you are right because Biden’s fingerprints are all over them. However, that is not the only cause. Many other blunders by the White House also exacerbate the problems.

Among the blunders, Biden has discouraged drilling and production in the United States by canceling pipelines, threatened higher taxes on oil and gas producers, and by taking promising acreage out of play for drilling, for instance, the Arctic Natural Wildlife Refuge. He has also slowed leasing and new drilling permits and recently imposed new Methane reduction rules that have further reduced production, making it more expensive. Altogether, this has reduced oil output by two million barrels per day. That shortage has to be made up by foreign oil markets who have not raised production to meet the needs and therefore are charging higher prices. One economist has projected the possibility of $150 per barrel of oil in 2022, twice the $75 a barrel in 2020.

Another reason for inflation is the fast-rising cost of housing, increasing at the rate of 20% a year. The Federal Reserve has encouraged this by continuing to buy 15 billion dollars of mortgage-backed bonds every month, which creates an artificially low mortgage rate; the result is a housing boom in sales and increases in the cost of rent. A 100 square foot apartment, about the size of a walk-in closet, in New York City rents for $900 a month.

Biden chooses to promote growth over stability, which enhances inflation. The recently passed bipartisan infrastructure bill only contains around 8% for infrastructure, while over 90% includes many other things unrelated to the infrastructure. However, all you hear about is building better highways, bridges, etc.

Biden is pushing his Build Back Better Bill, which he says will lower inflation. That goes against the law of inflation, which states that more money flowing into the market raises inflation and encourages people not to work but instead depend on Government handouts. Many would choose not to work if the Government gave them up to $100,000 a year for free. That would also further increase the labor shortage to produce needed goods, thus more inflation.

Inflation results when there is too much-printed money and too few goods. According to a recent analysis, Biden’s proposed Build Back Better Bill would guarantee both scenarios. Someone has rightly suggested that a better name for the bill is “Build Back Broke.”

A third needed reverse course of action:  Violent Crime is on the rise nationwide across America and is showing no signs of letting up. According to preliminary FBI data, there is an increase in homicides by about 25%, reaching over 20,000 murders in one year for the first time since 1995. LA had the highest number of murders in twenty years.  Also, other crimes such as rape, robbery, and assault are up exponentially, and Carjacking was up by 510%.

The assault on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, is still in the news. Of course, it was a bad thing and should never be allowed to happen again. One person was killed, which was one too many, that’s true, and there were some injuries and some damage. But the Black Lives Matter riots of the summer of 2021, which seems to be a forgotten matter, resulted in 346 police officers shot and 1000s injured, dozens of people dead, arson, looting, and billions of dollars of property damage. To top it off, Vice President Harris aided in getting offenders off by arranging bail. The government’s focus seems to be in the wrong places.

As we have seen in the past year, the primary reasons for the increase in crime are a move to defund, dismantle the police, and decrease or eliminate bail; together, it seems obvious that these are the reasons for the spike in crime. Many cities have reduced funding for the police, which has resulted in an exponential increase in crime. New York reduced their funding of the police by a billion dollars, and their rate of crime has soared out of control. The recent opposition and protests against police have tied their hands in dealing with criminals. Liberal judges who want to protect criminal rights over safeguarding law-abiding citizens have played a significant part in increasing crime. I watched several of Biden’s liberal Federal Court nominees cross-examined by Republican Senators. I am amazed at their ideology. They favor defunding the police, dropping the bail or lowering it for criminals, and releasing them back into the public.

The solution is obvious. First, we need to provide the police with adequate funds and equipment to enforce the law and give them freedom to do their job. Second, the thing required is judges who want to protect the safety and rights of upright American citizens rather than the rights of career criminals who are a menace to our society. Biden’s radical Federal Judge appointees will not do that. So, don’t look for a reduction of crime anytime soon.

A fourth needed reverse action:  Addressing the immigration crisis on the southern border is crucial. Nearly two million unvetted, unvaccinated illegal immigrants have crossed the border in 2021. Among those are drug cartels, terrorists, human traffickers, and criminals. Vice President Harris was assigned the responsibility to deal with the border crisis, and so far, she has visited the border one time and has done nothing to address the problem. There would be no crises in the first place if Biden had not halted the building of the border wall and removed the past administration’s laws which had been effective in controlling the immigration issue. Biden has openly invited the immigration crisis and does nothing to address it. To the contrary, The Biden Administration is flying and bussing the illegals to cities all across the country secretly during the dead of the night, which is against Federal law.

The Build Back Better Bill contains a provision that will pay illegal immigrants whose families were separated at the border during the last administration up to near two million dollars for a family of four. The families of fallen soldiers only receive a hundred thousand dollars. It makes you wonder how one president could get so many things so wrong so fast.

The fifth needed reverse action: The United States needs toRebuild foreign relations, which will take time, perhaps years. The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, no doubt, will go down in history as one of America’s greatest mistakes militarily and also concerning human rights violations. Hundreds and maybe even thousands of American citizens and Afghan allies who served to help the United States were left behind. Afghan citizens have now lost their rights and are under the tyranny of the Taliban, who are terrorists. The United States spent 83 billion dollars to train the Afghan security forces and left 85 billion dollars of military equipment behind. Some strategists believe that the Afghanistan boggled withdrawal also contributed to the aggressiveness of China and Russia in recent days, and the apparent weakness of President Biden could be a contributing factor to Russia starting a broader war in Europe.

The sixth needed reverse action: It is of an essence that states continue to control their voting rights.Suppose the Feds take over voting rights, according to the new voting rights bill, in that case, it will relax the voting laws designed to keep illegal immigrants and other unauthorized individuals from voting. It would also grant millions of taxpayers’ dollars to Candidates running for office; for example, Schumer would receive 40 million dollars for his upcoming reelection campaign.

The seventh needed reverse action: The United States needs to be guided away from a socialistic form of Government. President Biden, in his recent news conference, said he was not a socialist but instead a mainline Democrat. If that is true, why are his policies socialist. The lean toward socialism is not new in the United States: The late Dr. J. Vernon McGee, a radio Bible teacher, stated over 32 years ago that most Americans did not realize how socialist America was becoming. It has not just happened over the past year, but it has taken a giant leap forward. Ironically, there seems to be a considerable number of Americans that are for socialism even though it has failed in every country where it has been tried. Venezuela is a prime example, which under socialism went from one of the wealthiest countries in the western hemisphere to poverty in relatively short order.

The eighth needed reverse action:  Congressional action must be taken against the pharmaceutical companies for the high cost of medical drugs. Only last year did Congress attempt to lower the cost of medical drugs. The problem is, it is hidden in the very undesirable “Build Back Better Bill,” more appropriately named the “Build Back Broke Bill,” which, if passed, would plunge the United States deeper into debt and increase inflation, according to economists.

One example of how outrageously high a medication can be is the price of the drug Imatinib, which is used to treat leukemia. The retail price is over $9,000 per month. Since Congress has been slow to address the issue, Billionaire Mark Cuban has set up an online Pharmacy that sells the medication for $47 per month. You can register to purchase medicines at a cost up to 90% less at their new online pharmacy: https://costplusdrugs.com/create-account/

You can also read the article by Forbes and others addressing the new venture online.   I’m usually skeptical when I read something as promising as this new online pharmacy. So, I do a lot of research to try and see if it is legit. So far, I have found not one negative thing. However, if you decide to register on the pharmacy website, I suggest you do your research for assurance and peace of mind.

The ninth needed reverse action: It is time for rebuilding a strong military for a deterrent to war. Democrats seem to have taken a soft approach to building the military in the past and the present. In August 1980, Ronald Reagan accepted the Veterans of Foreign Wars endorsement. His pledge to them was to pursue a policy of “peace through strength.” Reagan said this about his defense policy: It was “a defense capability that provides a margin of safety for America.” The 40th president worked in light of that policy for eight years, building a robust national defense, which restored America’s reputation as a formidable force in the minds of enemies abroad. Reagan’s approach was not waging war but preventing it.  Most of the talk from the White House has been about what actions to take if Russia invades Ukraine, not actions that should be taken before to prevent it from happening.

The tenth needed reverse action: Big Federal Government takes away personal freedom and should be taken off the table by the Biden Administration. According to Ronald Reagan, the big Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: “If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” Does that sound familiar now days?

The eleventh needed reverse action: It is evident that the United States or the rest of the world was not prepared for Covid-19. A plan must be provided to deal with future viruses.According to information available,“there are an estimated 1.7 million undiscovered viruses in mammals and birds, any one of which could become a new pandemic.” Therefore, it is practical to expect future pandemics. I’m not a medical doctor or medical professional; however, there are lessons that Covid-19 has taught all of us. Several areas need to be considered; Adopting procedures on how to deal with future pandemics, stockpiling needed medical supplies in advance, developing new medical technologies, and training healthcare workers. All this to avoid the fragmented approach and misinformation we witnessed the past two years.

The twelfth needed reverse action: America’s most vital need is to return to God. The most likely question in the minds of many today is, can America return to God at this stage? The answer is yes if America is willing: II Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people which are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

According to the apocryphal legend, King George III of Great Britten wrote in his diary on July 4, 1776, “Nothing happened today.” If he said that, how wrong he was; Yes, something did happen. One of the most important events in history occurred; America was born to become a bastion for freedom. Despite its faults and failures, for 245 years, as of July 4, 2021, America has celebrated its independence, the freedom to guide its own lives with the freedom of religion.

Beginning in the 1950s and 60s, many Americans started to declare themselves free of religion rather than claiming the freedom of religion. The Bible and prayer were kicked out of public schools and the public square. Humanism took over, putting man and his achievements before God. In America today, it is not the gods of Eastern religions that are rejected, nor is homosexuality, free, liberated sex, or the new age movement; it Is God the creator of the universe and Christianity that is under attack. The founding fathers recognized God as the driving force for America, while many today consider religion mythology.

As far back as April 1994, an interesting article appeared in that edition of Reader’s Digest, written by William Bennett, the former Secretary of Education of the United States; the piece was entitled “What Ails America.” The article is available, and you can read it in its entirety at (https://wayneaugden.wordpress.com/2011/11/27/excerpt-from-what-really-ails-america-by-william-j-bennett/). This was what Bennett had to say: “Today, much of society ridicules and mocks those who are serious about their faith. America’s only respectable form of bigotry is bigotry against religious people. And the only reason for hatred of religion is that it forces us to confront matters many would prefer to ignore.”

Today, America is getting what it asked for and wanted, and it is coming back to bite. Bennett goes on to say, “Last year I compiled The Index of Leading Cultural Indicators, a statistical portrait of American behavioral trends of the past three decades. Among the findings: Since 1960, while the gross domestic product has nearly tripled, violent crime has increased at least 560 percent. Divorces have more than doubled. The percentage of children in single-parent homes has tripled. And by the end of the decade, 40 percent of all American births and 80 percent of minority births will occur out of wedlock.”

When I was a student in grade school, teachers said the biggest problem was the kids throwing paper wads. Today teachers are complaining about being assaulted by students, school shootings, drugs, alcohol, rape, and suicide. Since the 1960s, shortly after I graduated from high school, the average SAT scores have dropped 75 points in high schools, and today the elementary-school students now rank close to the bottom in math and science skills tests. That is what happens when a nation turns its back on God.

According to statistics, the United States leads the industrialized world in murder, rape, and violent crime, and violent crime is not letting up; it is rapidly increasing each year under the watch of liberal politicians and judges in this country. As the result of recent protests and riots and the January assault on the Capitol in Washington DC, many have lost their ability for disgust. A good historical example is the 1992 Los Angeles riots; Henry Watson held a victim down while Damian Williams used a brick to crush the victim’s head as it was being filmed. Willams did a victory dance after he was finished brutalizing his victim.

Later, lawyers built a legal defense for Watson and William’s attempted murder charge on the premise that people are not to be held accountable for getting caught up in mob violence, that is, being at the wrong place at the wrong time. It was reported to the New York Times after these men were acquitted on almost every count (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Reginald_Denny) that throughout the land it was not outrage, but a sigh of relief as if justice had been done.

It is time for we who are still dedicated Christians to stand up for what is right in the sight of God and not surrender to the wiles of a godless world. Getting angry at the atrocities today is legitimate, according to the Bible, when the God of the Bible is under attack.

Finally, Bennett says these words: “Today we must carry on a new struggle for the country we love. We must push hard against an age that is pushing hard against us. If we have full employment and greater economic growth-if we have cities of gold and alabaster-but our children have not learned to walk in goodness, justice and mercy, then the American experiment, no matter how gilded, will have failed.”

You, as one person, may not can do much to reverse the downward trends in America, but you can take control of your own life and turn to God.
