Where Are You Headed?
“Even though there are days I wish I could change some things in the past, I realize where I am now and where I’m headed is much more important than what I’ve left behind.” – unknown
Someone said life is like driving a car; there is a broad windshield and a tiny review mirror. Sometimes people spend more time looking in the rearview mirror than through the windshield where they are headed. No wonder so many lives wind up in a wreck. In life, we are all on a spiritual journey, but the question is: “Where are you headed?” Have you thought whether you are on the right path? All of us need all the help we can get in order to guide us and help us figure out which way we should go.
Everyday life can be an entangling experience. We get caught up in certain routines, and our obligations become overwhelming, and the course of life pulls us in a direction that we may seem forced to travel. Gradually, life seems to be taken over by everyday responsibilities and obligations. We get up in the morning and enter into the same routines day after day until we wonder what is the purpose of it all. Then life begins to feel empty; it is more about making it through each day than having purpose and direction.
It is easy to let the difficulties and challenges of life cloud our vision to the point we are disoriented and confused to the point of wondering if life is worth the effort. Maybe you need some guidance concerning your life, your job, finances, family, etc. The greatest need is, to know the truth about life and its purpose, the truth that will lead to the joy and peace we long for. We need a guiding light.
If you look up into a star lighted sky at night, you can easily pick out the big dipper; now follow the point; it will bring your eyes to Polaris, the North Star. In history past, sailors used the North Star to keep on course to arrive safely to their port of destination. Without it, they would not have known which way they were headed and would have consequently been lost at sea to perish. Those who love the outdoors learn as long as they can locate the North Star, they can find their way out of the dark and tangled woods and back to safety.
It is important to know what our North Star is, if we want to be headed in the right direction in life. Finding it takes the uncertainty and anxiety away and gives a calmness in being certain where we are headed. When you locate your North Star, it becomes your beacon to home in on; it is like a light that leads you every step of the way through all kinds of difficulties. Its direction leads you to joy and purpose. That alone gives you assurance like nothing else can. It gives you a good feeling of confidence.
What we need is a light to guide us out of the darkness into the light, the real darkness life has brought upon us and the one we have created in our mind. However, the world is filled with untrustworthy guides whose advice can lead us further into darkness until we find ourselves swamped in trouble. Some guides may be sincere, but the trouble is, they are also lost and know not where they are going. That is why it is so important to find a guide we can depend on who knows the way with no uncertainty.
So, where can we find that guiding light that Debbie Boone sang about, “He Lights up My Life.” God understands that we need a light to guide us through life as we encounter all kinds of problems and disappointments. So, He gave us His Word, the Bible. Proverbs 3:1-2 says, “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.” What a great promise that is for just following the instructions of the Bible.
When we accept the Bible as our guide in the uppermost part of our thinking, it will guide us accurately in every situation. To neglect God’s Word leads to a life of darkness, lostness and confusion. It doesn’t matter what lies ahead, God already knows and is able to give us the direction we need. When we depend on God and His Word for direction, we can be assured it will never fail us because it always leads us closer to God who knows all things.
God’s Word gives us the answer to where we can find that guiding light. John 8:12 says, we find it in the Lord: “Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Again, Jesus says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly,” John 10:10.
Now you may be wondering, does that include me? Can I really discover a life of peace that has meaning and purpose? May I say from my own experience that the answer is Yes! You can discover a new life, which includes peace beyond understanding: For the Bible says in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Would you like to see the world, so filled with problems, through different eyes, for instance, like Louis Armstrong’s 1967 song “What a wonderful world.” After all, it is not God’s creation that is ugly; it is the people who deny the God of creation, but there is a secret to knowing how to see everything in a different light. One of the greatest messengers of the New Testament was the Apostle Paul, and he said his purpose was to turn the people from darkness unto light, from Satan unto God. That is our greatest need today and the secret to seeing everything in a different light than we have ever known before.
I don’t know whether George Harrison, of the Beatles, ever found God or not. Nevertheless, he knew how urgent it was. He said, “Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait.” There is only one way to find God and that is through His Son, Jesus Christ: Jesus speaking to Thomas, one of His disciples, “…said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me,” John 14:6. Are you ready, along with myself and millions of others who have found God, to find God and discover your new life? Jesus and the Word of God can be your new found guiding light that will take you safely through life with meaning and purpose, and one day in the future, will bring you into God’s beautiful heaven.
Today you have heard the truth about the purpose of life. Receiving a life of purpose is on God’s terms and according to His timing. If today God is speaking to you, please don’t put Him off until a more convenient time. Here is what God is saying to you right now: “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,” 2 Corinthians 6:2.
This is so important, “Today is the day of salvation.” If you are ready, I have prepared step by step instructions from the Bible, if you are willing to follow them, to make your new life a reality. You will find it is so easy. Just CLICK HERE And I will show you the way.
