Don’t be the Victim of False Opinions

Does your opinion have dominion? 

Having an opinion is something we all are entitled to and no one, even a dictator, can deprive us of it. We may endanger ourselves by speaking our opinion in some environments but we can always have an opinion about anything we choose. The danger is in having false opinions that are founded on someone else’s false judgment or on a group belief. Jim Jones, pastor of the people’s church, led a group of people and influenced them to believe his opinion even though it was entirely false and even led them to take their own life. 

Having a false opinion whether it is influenced by someone else, a group or just our own but founded in falsehood can be a dangerous and a limiting position.

For example the opinion you have of yourself can limit what you are able to accomplish. It is like Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can or think you can’t, you are right”. It is best to be realistic about our limitations but only when it is based on truth and knowledge. Believing that we can do things when we presently don’t know how or what the means will be is confidence and not a false opinion but being of the opinion that we will suddenly become a millionaire, for example, is a false opinion and it leads to disappointment.

Having opinions based on truth that you know to be true not because of a feeling or even a desire to believe a certain thing is the safest. Even with the best knowledge we can find ourselves in error so we need to be constantly alert to discovering truth in all things.

Some become blinded to truth because of a strong desire to believe a certain way or because they have been “brain washed” to believe a certain way. It will be difficult for them to ever come to the truth because they actually shield themselves from it. You probably have spoken to those who seem to have a shield and it is impossible to penetrate their shield regardless of what you do or what you say. Practice to always be open to others opinions but always be careful to weigh them and test them against the truth. So many are gullible and are ready to believe anything and are easily influenced to join anything; they are like lambs being led to the slaughter.

I don’t want to be known as a strongly opinionated person because even though I do have some strong opinions on certain things, I have found myself to be wrong on a number of occasions therefore I never want to become so hardened in a certain opinion that I become blind and deaf to truth.

It is not a bad thing to change your opinion; it is a bad thing not to be willing to change your opinion regardless.

Our opinions will influence what we are and what we become more than anything else. This quote from the Bible supports that, “As a man thinketh so he is”. Over 2,000 years ago Mark Antonius said, “Opinion is the main thing which does harm or good in the world. It is our false opinions that ruin us.”

If you are ready to discover your true potential and the world of truth, the first step is to recognize your false opinions and release them. Develop brand new opinions based on true facts, reason and logic and live in reality instead of your own little word of bias opinions.

Our opinions create the kind of experiences we have and will determine whether they are good or bad. Twisted opinions deprive us of the good experience in life and limit our purpose and our potential. We can miss many of the opportunities in life because of preconceived false opinions.

Much of our opinions are based on negativity; a good exercise would be to list every one of your negative opinions whether it be of a spouse, friend, coworker etc. and be an objective attorney and began to punch holes in them until you have torn them apart and then you can release yourself from them.

Instead of expecting your spouse to serve you, try serving them and helping them to find their happiness and purpose; instead of waiting for others to become your friends, become their friend and show your concern and care for them.

Don’t let your life be controlled by your opinions and quit locking yourself in a tiny little cell; quit judging others by your opinions and start giving without any expectations of getting anything in return and see if it doesn’t opens up a whole new and exciting adventure in life with purpose and meaning.
