Francis Dixon was one of the great Evangelists for the Lord. He went on to be with the Lord a few years ago. I had the privilege of meeting him and hearing him in West Memphis, Arkansas a number of times.  Francis Dixon shared an amazing story about a man who consistently sowed the seeds of the gospel, even though he never knew of anyone being saved as a result.

Francis Dixon had a young man in his church in England whose name was Peter. Peter was asked to share his testimony of how he became a Christian. He started out like this: “I was in the Royal Navy stationed in Sidney Australia  and I was walking down George street one day when out of nowhere came a little old white haired man and he said to me; “Excuse me sir but I would like to ask you a question. If you were to die today where would you spend eternity? Would it be heaven or hell? The bible says it will be one or the other. Think about it would you please; that’s all; God bless you; Toddle do”. And Peter said, “Boy I had never had a question like that asked me before and the first thing I did when I returned to England was to seek out a pastor and I was converted to Christ”.

They had what we would call a revival in the church of Francis Dixon and had about a half dozen or so people on the team; one was a young man named Noel and Noel was asked to give his testimony. He started by saying: “Here is how I was saved; I was in the Royal Navy and was stationed in Sidney Australia and I was walking down George street one day when out or nowhere came a little old grey haired man and said to me, ‘Sir I hope it doesn’t offend you but tell me, if you were to die today where would you spend eternity?; the Bible says it will either be heaven or hell, one of the two. Think about it please would you? That’s all toddle do’. “That is the way I was converted”. When the service was over, Peter came to him and said, “Noel you have my testimony”.

Francis Dixon was so impressed by this that when he was on a world tour speaking in Australia, he was speaking in the city of Adelaide, he told the story about those two young men and while he was speaking a man stood (now we don’t do that in this country) and waved his hand and said, “Sir I’m another. I was walking down George street in Sidney Australia one day when out of nowhere came a little old white haired man and that was how I came to Christ”. From the city of Adelaide the pastor went always across Australia to the west to the city of Pertha. When the service was over a deacon came up and said, “Sir I’m another. I was walking down George Street in Sidney Australia one day when a little old white haired man…”

He went back to England and shared it with his church…When the service was over a young lady came up and said, “Sir I’m another; I was walking down George street one day in Sidney Australia out of nowhere came a little old white haired man…”.

Not long after that he was to speak at Kessek, a great conference in northern England. After sharing what had happened, another man came up and said, “Sir I’m another, I was walking down George Street one day in Sidney Australia when out of nowhere came a little old white haired man…”.

He made another world tour and he was in India speaking to a group of missionaries. “Would you address us”, they said, “on the theme of personal evangelism?”; so he told them the story of the little old white haired man and when it was over a woman missionary came up and said to him, “sir I’m another; I was walking down George street one day in Sidney Australia when this little old white haired man…” – same story.

Later in Jamaica he shared the story again and a man said, “I’m another”. He made one more trip to Australia…and decided to try and locate the little old white haired man so he asked a Christian friend, “Do you know a little old man who used to stand out on George Street and ask people, if you were to die today where you would spend eternity…?”  “Oh yes, we all know him; his name is Mr. Genner but he is quiet feeble and cannot go out any more.”  “Could you take me to his house?”  “Surely”; so they went to the house of the little old man. Francis Dixon walked in and introduced himself and began to tell the little old man all of the people who had come to Christ because of his witness. That dear little old man broke down and wept and said, “Sir, this is the first time in my life I’ve ever known of anyone coming to Christ as a result of my witness”.

One sows and another reaps and our Lord magnifies the ministry of sowing. Will you sow the wonderful news of the gospel?

Nowhere in Scripture are we commanded to win souls but our Lord did command us to sow the seeds of the gospel: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:19, 20)

If you take the commands of our Lord seriously, then you will make it a priority to sow the seeds of the gospel, otherwise you will not.

I hope that you do take our Lords commands seriously…I do, therefore I have set a goal to sow the seeds of the gospel to a million or more in the remaining years of my life, if God gives me the time. I will do this by using gospel tracts, the gospel business card and through the articles I post on the Internet. If you would like to have information on how to make your own gospel business card, go to www.otobefree.com and click on the “about” on the navigational bar at the top of the page and you will find instructions there. Most could easily sow the seeds of the gospel to 500 people a year using this method and gospel tracts. It is safe to say that the majority of church members don’t even sow to one person a year. We will one day give account to our Heavenly Father concerning his command to sow the seeds of the gospel.

If you have not yet answered the question as to where you will spend eternity when you die and you would like to know how to settle it once and for all, read my article: “How to have a relationship with God”
