Scientists agree that at least 20% or more of the calories we consume come from things we drink. Barry M. Popkin, PhD, professor of nutrition, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill states “Everybody — parents, adults, and teenagers — has to realize what they drink is adding to their weight.” *1

If you are trying hard to lose weight and you are doing the entire right thing, like eating the right foods and getting the right exercise, there still might be one very important thing that you are overlooking and that is what you drink. We are aware that soft drinks are bad for us: “If you consume two of those drinks every day … you’ll gain a pound every week from them. And if you just think about that, over the course of a year, that’s 52 extra pounds that you could put on your body. And that is really dangerous for anybody”*2, Dr. Michael Rickels, University of Pennsylvania.

There are also 4 Healthy Drinks to Avoid for  Weight  Loss and  better  health. These  4  so-called  “healthy” drinks that we have  always  taken for  granted  to  be  good  for  us are the  undercover enemies to weight loss and could be destroying our health.

The reason is …

Most “Healthy” Drinks add fat instead of helping you lose fat! They ambush your efforts to lose weight by:

  • Inundating your body with loads of extra calories …
  • Raising your insulin levels…
  • Immobilizing  your metabolism and keeping it from burning fat.
  • Also it sets your body up for a plethora of long-term metabolic disorders …

Here are the 4 so-called “healthy” drinks that you should always avoid if you are concerned about weight loss and good health:

1. Flavored Waters with Zero Calories

It is good that there are Zero calories but the problem is that most of these drinks contain artificial sweeteners which inhibit fat burning as well as blocking the absorption of nutriments to the body and also increase appetite.

There are some brands that use stevia and if you still prefer the drinks, look for those brands.

A better alternative is to add some squeezed lemon juice to your water if you like to add a little zest.

2. 100% “Natural” fruit juice

While fruit juices do contain a lot of nutrients that are good for the body, they are also loaded with calories. Juices are processed therefore the fiber has been stripped away which results in the natural sugar causing a surge in your insulin level and raising you blood sugar.

This is a great concern for children since parents think that fruit juice is a good health choice for them. In a recent study of 4 to 12 year old children, Researchers discovered that children who drank more than two glasses of fruit juice per day were twice as likely to be overweight or obese. The study also concluded that “Children who drank more than three glasses of soft drink (three quarters of a litre/750ml) or 4 glasses of fruit juice/drinks (1 litre) per day were more than twice as likely to be overweight or obese compared with children who did not drink these drinks.” *3

Also for men drinking excessive amounts, more than a couple of glasses, of 100% pure orange juice per day could pose health problems; in conjunction with spiking sugar levels it could also load the body with iron and since a man, unlike woman who have minstrel periods each month and dispels extra Iron, could retain it and have an excessive build up of iron in their body over time.

Fruit has great benefits for the body but it is best to eat the fruit rather than drinking fruit juices which are stripped of the needed fiber. Use antioxidant supplements to get the same nutriments as fruit juices provide.

3. Cappuccino

Black coffee has been proven to be a fat burner; it boosts the metabolism. However those alternate forms of coffee like cappuccino can contain as much as 1,000 calories in just one drink. It depends on where you get it and what kind you get. Some choices can have as few as 75 calories. It is not included in the fat burner category but as far as food value some choices get a B+ rating. Black coffee is the best choice for weight loss.

4. Soy Milk

Soybeans are inedible; therefore, before they can be consumed as food they have to go through a processing procedure to remove the toxins. Initially Soybeans were used in Asia to ward off insects and to protect the soil. Today however Soy is an ingredient in many food products and may not even appear on the label.

Soy milk has long been recommended as a substitute for milk. Most soy milk nowadays is heavily processed with little nutritional value and is far from being a substitute for milk. Milk has been short changed for its health values while soy milk as been highly promoted as a healthy substitute. There are still too many questions concerning soy and its bad effects on the body. The soymilk dangers that we know of include:

o    The anti-nutrients in soy milk prevent your body from absorbing essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc that could lead to osteoporosis.

o    The enzyme inhibitors in soy milk make it difficult for your body to absorb protein. They can also cause abdominal pain, gas, nausea, cramps, and other gastrointestinal problems.

o    The hemagglutinin in soy milk can promote blood clots.

o    The goitrogens in soy mild is something which can cause gout and thyroid problems.

Now that you know the drinks that aren’t good for you; here is one that is very good for you which not only helps you to burn fat but also has some real potential health benefits.
